20 ways to increase your new RSS subscribers

Hi!, If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or sign up for free email updates.. Thanks for visiting!

Blogging is fun. I blog because I can share my experiences with my readers. However, if you are a full time blogger, then it is important to have good contents that attract readers to your blog. More readers eventually will translate to more incoming traffic and more income down the road. Therefore, most blogs use RSS (Really Simple Syndication) to easily update readers and subscribers. So the question to ask is, ‘how to increase the number of new RSS subscribers’?. What are ways to increase new RSS subscribers?

So here are 20 simple ways you can begin to implement today and start getting more blog subscribers right away.

1. It is all about marketing. Always try to promote your RSS feed link whenever and wherever you can. Put your RSS feed link as your email signature.

2. Create a dedicated subscription landing page for feeds e.g., like this. A simple dedicated subscription landing page makes it easier for reader to subscribe to your feed or email subscription.

3. Promote Your Feed with an Image. Use interesting image to attract reader to your RSS feed link.

4. Ask for subscription. At the end of every post, you can put something like this “If you enjoyed this post, get free updates via email or RSS”.5. Post in forum. There are so many forums out there. Some forums like Digitalpoint allow you to add your RSS feed to your profile & have it displayed in every thread you write or participate in.

6. Offer full RSS feed. Most subscribers are annoyed when they have to click an extra link to read the full story. If you break a story or write something interesting and engaging, RSS subscribers would still come to your blog pages to read comments left by other readers or write one themselves. Partial feeds may not excite them enough.

7. Create a visible RSS feed icon. No doubt, size does matter. A visible RSS feed icon is a good promotion tool.

8. Networking with other bloggers. Build up a good synergistic relationship with other bloggers.

9. Become a guest blogger. By contributing your content to other blogs, it another good marketing plan. Especially if you are contributing to other blogs with more readers.

10. Free Gifts. Anything that is free always attract attention. For example, Chris Garrett gave away free ebooks for subscribers. While copyblogger bundled pdf report with a book.

11. Educate your readers. Write a post explaining the importance of RSS feed, and at the end of the post, put a link to your RSS feed.

12. Post in social networking site. Promote your RSS feed link in social networking sites, e.g, twitter, jaiku, myspace etc

13. Don’t display your RSS count button if your number of subscribers is small. It is human psychology. Readers tend to join the crowd when they see large number of subscribers. Small number will discourage them.

14. Offer email subscription. One of the most underrated RSS feed offerings is the email subscription. Some readers are constantly in touch with their email and prefer to read even RSS feeds in their email. Services like Feedblitz and Feedburner offer such services which are easy to implement.

15. Always make sure your feeds work. Nothing turns off wannabe subscribers when they pop in your blog URL in their feed readers and see no default feeds offered

16. Offer unique content or downloads for feed subscribers. Textlinkads offer a Feedvertising Plugin for Wordpress that allows you to run ads or even run your own “extra content” in the feed.

17. Get on Technorati. Technorati is a great place for people to find your blog & what you’re blogging about. If you blog about anything then try blogging about things in the “Top Searched List” this’ll bring in a slight increase in traffic & hopefully more subscribers everyday.

18. Paid ad. If you are loaded with cash, and desperate for subscribers, you can get a paid ad for your RSS feed. e.g, Google Adword, Yahoo! ads etc.

19. Start a Videocast or Podcast. You can promote your RSS feed link in your Videocast or Podcast.

20. Content is KING Ultimately, readers are attracted to your blog because you are providing good content.

If all the above methods still not showing good result, maybe you can try these “evil” methods, here and here.

This is a very comprehensive list. I have been looking for new ways to increase my RSS count, are these the same strategies you used to increase yours?
