When To Use “Click Here” As The Anchor Text?

Hi!, If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or sign up for free email updates.. Thanks for visiting!

Forget what the SEO gurus are telling you if you want higher click through rate for your outgoing links because Brian Clark from Copyblogger recently exposed what works for SEO might not work for your landing page. While it’s true that using your targeted keyword as your anchor text can help you to achieve higher ranking for the keyword in the SERPs, it doesn’t necessarily bring the desired result if you’re implementing that strategy in your sales copy.

And Marketing Sherpa took one step further by doing split testing to their subscribers in their mailing lists and proven that a simple change of word usage in your sales copy or newsletter can determine the click through rates of your outgoing links.

These terms maybe have little differences , but do you notice the huge difference in click through percentage?

  • “Click to continue”: 8.53%
  • “Continue to article”: 3.3%
  • “Read more”: (-)1.8%

But all in all, you will still have to do your own testing to find out which one works the best for your marketing effort. What works for Marketing Sherpa might not be the best for your target market. So, have you found what anchor text works the best for you?

yeah, i believe that when it comes to SEO, you gotta be able to find out which keyword is profitable and optimize your site around that certain keyword. ;)

I had no clue that such a small difference could tumble up the click through rate. Thanks for the heads up!

I quickly changed the anchor text on my blog from “Read More” to “Click to continue”. Lets see how things work out!

Sound interesting to try out the “click to continue”. I’m into internet marketing too, maybe we can share some ideas sometime since we “almost” have the same theme design, just almost:)
