It is official, Google has officially acquired Jaiku, a social microblogging service. While twitter has the most number of users, it is Jaiku that offers integration of RSS feeds into its microblogging service. Jaiku was founded in July, 2006 by Jyri Engeström and Petteri Koponen from Finland. Jaiku has better development in the area of integration between Jaiku services and mobile devices due to Jyri Engeström’s previous working experience with the mobile giant, Nokia. This is significantly true as Jaiku is compatible with Nokia S60 platform mobile devices through its Jaiku Mobile client software. This software allows Jaiku users to make posts through the software onto their Jaiku page.

Now that Jaiku is in the Google family, new user sign-ups have been limited for the time being. As reported in Jaiku’s blog, this is to enable Jaiku team to get right to work with Google’s engineers on delivering a new, better service as quickly as they can instead of spending our efforts on optimizing the current back-end. You can request an invite code here.

The next question is “Will Jaiku be a better sosial microblogging service than Twitter or Pownce?”. Only time will tell.

Lastly, if you are a Jaiku user, you can connect to me on Jaiku or join me in #kuanhoong channel
