Gold Powder Dance

I guess the title itself is quite captivating enough. Osu Matsuri or Festival (大須祭り) is held annually on third weekend of October. This year, Osu Matsuri was celebrated on 20-21st October 2007. Osu-Kannon (大須観音) is located just south of Sakae and Fushimi, Nagoya’s main shopping centers. It is named after the famous Osu Kannon Temple - a great place to stroll and take in the mix of old and new. Osu Kannon Temple is Nagoya’s oldest and the surrounding area is home to a vibrant fusion of old-style arcades selling everything from discount electronics to second-hand kimono, antique markets on the 18th and 28th of each month, and a number of intriguing Brazilian shops and cafes.

One of the highlights of Osu Matsuri is the naked Gold Powder Dance (金分ショウ). Male and females dancers covered with gold paint performed unique dances mixed with some dazzling fire performances in front of a large crowd. It was truly the highlight of Osu Matsuri and eye-opening performance for Japanese and non Japanese.
