I’m on a visit to Japan and I did the hotshield but they were able to see they say that base on my IP address and an anonymous Proxy I could not access Hulu.

Well, the page load speed is ok, but the video stream speed isn’t. I’m in Hong Kong and it’s unwatchable. I know that streaming TV from US to Asia can be done because I watch TWIT video cast all the time, so it’s probably the overhead of having a VPN that’s slowing things down.
Anyways, Software does what it’s supposed to do, but the solution just isn’t working for me.

It works fine, but that Hotspot Shield thing comes with a hidden monstrosity of an addbot. Puts a banner in your web browser, as well as occasionally not letting you see the page till you click one of their “sponsers’.
I think there goes the saying ..there is no free lunch in this world.
I have an account with http://www.smallvpn.com for $10 a month. It is a paid one but at least i am free from any ‘hidden’ agenda from these free-vpn provider.
So far so good. Solid uptime and i enjoy my hulu session ever since.

It depends on what you are trying to do with your VPN. I use StreamingVPN.com to watch online TV and movies. Speeds were like I was back in the US.
