Well, in Japan! Softbank, Japan’s iPhone partner, will be giving out free 8GB versions of the iPhones! Well, technically, it is not free as subscribers have to sign up for a two year contract. Subscribers can still opt for the 16GB version for a very discounted price as well (¥480). The cheapest monthly contract subscribers can opt for is the ¥980 per month basic charges where other charges will apply on top of it depending on usage.
We can’t really hope for this to happen in the rest of the world in the near future. Possibly because the iPhone’s 3G capability is really a no biggie in Japan (and possibly Korea) where they are already moving towards the 4G world.
