It is official that Skype plans to release a version of its Internet-based phone software for Apple Inc.’s iPhone. With this launch, it is seen that Skype will be more directly in competition for wireless voice services with network operators such as AT&T Inc. and Verizon Wireless.
As with Skype on the computer, users of Skype on mobile phones can make calls and send instant messages to other Skype users free, and they pay lower rates than the phone companies would charge when they use Skype to call landlines or other mobile phones.
The free Skype for iPhone will finally be available to download from the iTunes App Store sometime on Tuesday.
