Facebook has been testing a simplified version of its social network service aimed at countries where internet bandwidth is limited. Named Facebook Lite, it focuses on messaging and user updates and now looks far more similar to rival micro-blogging service Twitter.

Facebook Lite is reassuringly simple: the clutter of Facebook proper has been replaced by a spartan wall, and oversized links leading to photos and profile information.
