Shutter count refers to the number of times shutter closes during photo taking. In another words, a camera with high shutter count would probably has higher chances of damage as compared to a camera with lesser shuttle count.

To check shuttle count for Nikon or Canon DSLR camera, you can use Opanda IExif. It is a simple utility software that allows you to view the Exif data info.
