There are many Gmail notifier out there. The latest one is the Animated Gmail Notifier. It is a freeware based on Adobe AIR technology that works with Windows, MacOS and Linux.

The main feature of this notifier is that whenever there is new Gmail, you will be notified by cool animations. There are several animations that you can choose from. In fact, you can even create your own animations. To install a new animation, select Options from the Gmail Notificer icon, click on Animations tab then click the Install Animation button.
