One of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland is the Gullfoss waterfall. The Gullfoss water which means Golden falls is a two-tiered waterfall that drops a total of 32 meters while spanning the entire width of the Hvítá River.
For Icelanders, the Gullfoss waterfall has an unique tale behind its popularity.
As per locals, there is a romantic story depicted Sigríður Tómasdottir, which is the daughter of the landowner who was about to sell his land, including the falls. Sigríður threatened to throw herself into the falls if the land was sold. As a result, the father pulled out of the deal and the falls was made a reserve and the rest was history. As a result, Gullfoss remains one of the most breathtaking waterfall views in Iceland.
