WordPress 2.8 is Now Available for Download

WordPress has just released the latest version of their installable blog software: WordPress 2.8 – Baker. WordPress 2.8 offers a re-designed widgets interface, improved speed, and has fixed a reported 790 bugs.

Some of the major improvements for WordPress 2.8 are:

Speed : WordPress 2.8 is reported to be faster to use
Quick Theme Installation : You can now browse the entire theme directory and install a theme with one click from the comfort of your WordPress dashboard.
New Interface : WordPress 2.8 has a completely new interface. Now you can do things like edit widgets on the fly, have multiple copies of the same widget, drag and drop widgets between sidebars, and save inactive widgets

As per WordPress Blog:

I’m very excited to announce to everyone that the latest and greatest version of WordPress, version 2.8 “Baker,” is immediately available for download. 2.8 represents a nice fit and finish release for WordPress with improvements to themes, widgets, taxonomies, and overall speed. We also fixed over 790 bugs. This release is named in honor of noted trumpeter and vocalist Chet Baker.

Simple ways to customize your RSS feed footer

Almost all of the blogs out there do offer RSS feed subscription for their readers. Besides offering blog updates via the RSS feed, there are several things that you can add to your RSS feed footer.

Stuff that you can add to your RSS footer are like:

Copyright your feed : Add copyright notice to protect your feed
Monetize your feed : You can add-in customized ads at the bottom of every blog post
Direct URL link back to blog site : You may want to direct your RSS feed readers to your blog site

If your blog is based on WordPress engine, there are a variety of WordPress plugins out there that allow you to create a footer for your WordPress feed. Here are some of the WordPress plugins I found in the net.

1. RSS Footer

RSS Footer is a simple plugin that allows you to add an extra line of content to articles in your feed, defaulting to "Post from: " and then a link back to your blog, with your blog’s name as it’s anchor text. You can then also choose to position the sentence before your content instead of the default: after.

2. Feed Footer WordPress Plugin

Feed Footer WordPress plugin is a more complete plugin. It allows you to add in copyright notices, show and rotate ads, and finally you can add any HTML code to be shown in your RSS footers. The fun part is that you can spice up your footers with banners and images. You can make your text bold or italics or underlined.

Flickr is one the largest photo sharing sites out there. If you are a flickr user and would like to display your flickr photos in your wordpress blog then flickrRSS is the right plugin for you.

flickrRSS plugin for WordPress allows you to display Flickr photos easily on your weblog. flickrRSS supports user, set, favorite, group and community photostreams. Overall, flickrRSS is relatively easy to setup and configure via the settings panel. The plugin also has cache support, allowing you to save thumbnails on your own server.

Installation

Put the flickrRSS files into your plugins directory.
Activate the plugin.
Configure your options under the Settings tab.
To use an image cache, create a writable directory and specify its location in the settings.
Add to your templates where you want the images to appear (or use the widget system).

View and Moderate WordPress comments from your desktop

Ever wish that you could view and moderate your WordPress blog comments from your desktop. Now it is possible with Moderator. It is a WordPress Plugin and associated desktop application, built using Adobe AIR, that allows you to view and moderate comments from your desktop.

Some of the features of this early release of the application include:

Viewing unmoderated comments.
Dock and system tray notifications of the number of unmoderated comments.
Accept, delete, and spam comments from within the desktop client.
Close application window, or minimize it to the system tray while running.
Shows the Gravatar icons for the user who posted the comment.

Requirements

Moderator currently requires version 2.6+ of WordPress be installed. Also, you will need Adobe AIR 1.1, which runs on Mac, Windows, and is currently in beta on Linux.

Installation

Download the current plugin bundle from here. (moderator_plugin.zip | 72KB)
Unzip the contents of the archive and place them in your WordPress install directory under {wordpress install}/wp-content/plugins. You should now have a directory called ‘moderator’ in the plugins folder.
Login to your administration panel, and go to the Plugins page. Activate the Moderator plugin by clicking on the ‘Activate’ link in the entry for this plugin.
Now that the plugin is activated, go to the Settings tab and select the Moderator admin page. Follow the instructions on that page to install the desktop client.

Add Related Posts to your Blog RSS feed

In case that you are not aware, you can actually show a series of “related” entries for your blog post based on keyword matching by using either the w-a-s-a-b-i or the Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) related post WordPress plugin. However, these related entries are not available for viewing in your RSS feed. In order to show them in your feed, you are required to modify your wp-rss2.php file, which is quite complicated.

With the WordPress plugin released by Solo technology, now you can add related posts to your feed easily. There are two version of the plugins. The first version is only can be used for the Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) related post WordPress plugin. While the second version is released with support for the w-a-s-a-b-i Related Posts plugin.

Installation

The installation is simple. Download the related plugin and upload it to your WordPress plugin directory. From the Administration Panels, click on the Plugin tab, activate the plugin from the Plugins Management page.

First version with support for Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) related post WordPress plugin
Second version with support for w-a-s-a-b-i Related Posts plugin.

In order for your related posts to appear in your feed, make sure your blog is set to full feed and not summary feed.

Google AdSense WordPress Plugin

I am new to WordPress. As this while I was blogging using Blogger. However, after switching from Blogger to WordPress, I am amazed with all the free WordPress themes and plugins available out there. There are endless choices of themes and plugins to choose from. For Google AdSense WordPress plugin, it is highly recommended by WordPress users to use Adsense-Deluxe Plugin.

AdSense-Deluxe V0.7 includes support for WordPress 2.0’s (WYSIWYG) Rich Editor as well as with updated documentation and help text. One of the strong point for AdSense Deluxe plugin that it works well for Yahoo!’s Publisher Network too. AdSense-Deluxe is a plugin for WordPress (1.5 or later) which greatly simplies the addition of Google or Yahoo! ads to your WordPress blogs, allowing for use of multiple ad styles and controlling when and where ads are displayed.

The installation is fairly easy, in fact, easier than previous adsense plugin. Just make a copy of the “adsense-deluxe.php” file into your WordPress plugin and activate it. Then, goto Options -> Adsense to add your Google Adsense codes.

Once inside the AdSense option page, there are fairly amount of control available for your general preference setting. However, the most important portion of the setting is the “New AdSense Block” portion. These are important stuff that you need to enter :

Fill in a name for your AdSense block eg. square
Copy and paste the adsense code into “AdSense Code“
Fill in the description for the ads block in “Description” box.
Click “Add Adsense Block” button and you are done. You will see the newly added adsense block listed in “AdSense Blocks“, the default block will be highlighed with green color.

To add the default ad block, you add this tag : (to add a adsense block named “square”). Or, you can refer to the “AdSense Blocks” list in “Adsense Option” for the tag code.

Besides Google AdSense Deluxe plugin, there are many more AdSense related plugins. To know more, check out here.

Once you published your posting, you can see your Google AdSense ad embedded. That;s your first step of earning your millions dollar of income from Google or Yahoo!
